I just found out some sad news. The geocaching statistics dashboard that I have been using for 2 years has recently closed down. “It’s Not about the Numbers” was turned off in June 2010 as Dave, the fearless leader had to focus his time and energy on other things – like family and his job. This is of course understandable and we will miss that the site has not found a new owner or being passed to Geocaching.com to integrate into their features.
With this news, I had to find a new site for geocache statistics. Do I choose GSAK, GCStatistic, or My Geocaching Profile?
GSAK
This geocaching tool is used by a lot of people and I hear of it fondly from others to track their cache finds and create their geocaching statistics. But I’ve just never really got into the tool, it does not seem intuitive for me, and feels a bit old school.

GCStatistic
I went to the web site and it is freeware (always appreciated). But I had to download something to use it, which I don’t mind but if there is an option for a completely online model – I tend to prefer that. The geocaching statistics profile created looks decent as well. So may be in the future.

My Geocaching Profile
I went to the website and yes, it looks a bit cheesy, but its a free site and used by geocachers! I checked out the sample profile and it is very extensive and has different ways to look at your geocaching statistics that has now got me thinking….. For instance there is a “cache count by county” that I had never considered. And badges for people based on what they have achieved….like a FourSquare approach to entice you.
I went with the My Geocaching Profile for today and here are the results. Happy Geocaching!

Profile created using MyGeocachingProfile.com

I use GCStatistic, simply because I can use it one a mac – and there isn’t much out there you can do with a mac! It’s nice to – updates your profile on GC.com right from the program, it also saves the settings you choose. So I don’t have to go in and modify my FTFs and special caches every time
Glad you found what works for you!
Another nice simple utility is CacheStats. You can get it at:
http://www.logicweave.com/
Its nice because you can tag your favorite caches and select a bunch of different categories. You can also link to various cache blogs and read them on a separate tab after generating your stats, which can be a weekend thing (run your stats and catch up on cache news.)
try it out. it provides a nice clean export and is not as large and overbearing as some other stat outputs
I’ll give this a try soon and report out. I like the idea of the catching up with news element….the fun for me is reading the stories people had in finding or solving these geocaches.
