What a Unique Geocache Hide – Sea Monkey Central

I’ve found over 700 geocaches so many geocaches are often in the same style or type that I’ve found before. But every now and then I come across a unique geocache that has me walking away saying “wow” and amazed at how creative people can be in placing geocache hides. This geocache blog post shows the unusual geocache called “Sea Monkey Central”

First you start by finding the location of the cache, a clever pipe attached to a fence….you think it’s one of the standard pipes until your GPS sends you to this location…

Then comes the hard work…you need to bring 1 gallon of water with you to make this work….luckily this is near a river and we had a cup so we ran back and forth filling this up…

The hard part was making sure you could fill it up faster than it emptied out…because then you got the final result…the Sea Monkey Geocache!

Unusual Geocache Hide – A Saguaro Cactus or a Cell Phone Tower?

This geocache blog post adds to the series of revealing the mysteries of geocache hides and showcasing the more unusual or surprising geocache hides.

There is a geocache at this photo location – but the unusual aspect is the reason for the hide – this large Saguaro cactus is actually a cell phone tower. I had never realized that the phone companies are becoming more respectful of their locations and blending into the environment. I have also seen a Palm Tree version in San Diego as well….and another geocache is located there to signify that unusual tower.

Unusual Geocache Hide – Flying Fish???

I did not find the cache when I went to this location….but I might have found the bonus prize?

I was rooting around with my hand in the hedge when I smelt something really fishy…..and sure enough it was a fish!!!

I’m glad that I brought my sanitizer out geocaching…you just never know what you will find!

Unusual Geocache Hides – “Where’s George?” Money

This geocache blog post adds to the series of revealing the mysteries of geocache hides. The use of real money is unusual as it causes the geocacher to have to make a decision to spend it or re-hide it.

Usually you can find money if you are a FTF (First To Find). But I knew I was not as this cache had been around since 2003….an oldie indeed.

So I picked up the money and it was in a plastic bag…..and had a red stamp on the side with a web link on it….

I went home and went to Where’s George and sure enough this funny little website comes up….apparently you can track money and where it goes.

Here’s an example report, the bill I had was dedicated to geocaching….does that mean I can’t spend it? It’s still in my pocket now….what should I do?

Unique Geocache Hide in Geocaches – “Cache Card”

I’ve been geocaching for 1 year now (hooray!!) and I’m always amazed at what I can find in a geocache container. I’m used to the usual toys and trinkets now but some things are quite creative or unusual.

On a hiking trip, I found a “Cache Card” which was a transparent picture – made me think of those old presentations you had to do on plastic stencils…so sharing this find in this geocache blog post

I looked it up online and there is a website about the Cache Cards which shows all the types that the user has placed out there….where they have been….and encourages geocachers to log them where they find them.

There are over 1600 of these placed out there in the geocache world….this example is from Massachusetts, so travelled a long way to San Diego.

The Biggest Geocache Ever???

There are many different sizes of geocaches out there and having found hundreds, I have seen many types. This geocache blog post though may just be about the Biggest geocache ever…in the world….yes that is a bold statement, so you tell me if you agree or not….

I was out on a geocache hike in San Diego and saw the geocache name “45 Gallon” on my Garmin and thought “interesting”. I read the full log description and the clue was in the title, 45 gallons was the actual size of the geocache. So it surely must be easy to find? I have to say it was very cleverly hidden and unless you know you were looking, it would be easy to miss. Guess that’s why it has not been muggled yet.

After finding it, Bangers & Mash joked about it being so big that you could fit a person in it, so I of course took the challenge and got in the geocache hide.

You might be wondering what was in the geocache hide….of course it was the biggest geocache logbook I have ever seen as well.

A geocache might be there right in front of your eyes and you might not know. This geocache blog post shows an example of one you might have missed…

I love finding geocaches that are unusual. I walked past this one several times before I worked it out, and now I see it a lot.

Let’s get a bit closer….this will give it away.

Yep, it’s the sprinkler unit! I suppose the fact that I was in a nature reserve area should have told me that there would not be any sprinklers!

So keep your eye out for geocaches – they are everywhere around us!

A Geocache Story of the Underwater Geocache

This geocache blog post takes you through the story and hunt of searching and finding an underwater geocache. You’ll walk away knowing how to geocache.

One not so fine day, a geocacher went out on the hunt for geocaches. They followed the GPS coordinates to this location….but where is the cache?

Looking over the edge of the water, I shouted “Here is the cache, it’s in the water” Maybe that’s why the cache is called “The Titanic!”

“But how do you get an underwater geocache?” I called out. I looked down and noticed that there was a rope…”perhaps I should pull the rope”.

And so the work began to get the geocache out of the water….it was held down by some decent weight….so a big pull was needed.

After a few minutes the geocache arrived out of the water and was ready for the “signing of the log” – a ceremony known and cherished by geocachers

Lastly, for the tale to end, the geocache must be hidden again. And the 2 ducks lived happily ever after guarding the geocache from muggles.

A Unique Geocache Hide – The Lamp Post Cache or LPC

In a previous geocache blog post I highlighted a typical geocache hide location of the Lamp Post Cache hide. However, anything is possible in the land of geocaching and I recently found an untypical lamp post cache hide.

First the geocache had me walking in a field….and then mentioned to find a lamp post, which I was quite sure that it was wrong when I was in the middle of a field and there was no tall structures to be seen. And then I saw this lamp post graveyard – where they place them to rest when no longer needed.

When I got here, I then spent a good amount of time searching for anything that fiddled, moved, looked out of the ordinary. Of course, what looks ordinary in a lamppost graveyard?
